Oh My LAWD! Who ever is yet to give MakeUp Geek a go needs to get on it, no seriously I will give you a minute…
Now that you have had sometime to take in the beauty of these shadows and hopefully picked up a few of your own we can begin.
Recently I picked up my first ever batch of MakeUp Geek eye shadows which was a very exciting day for me. I also purchased a small Z palette to keep them all nicely housed in the same area.
The shades I picked up are:
Burlesque, Bitten, Flame Thrower (Foiled), Roulette, Cosmopolitan, Mango Tango, In The Spotlight (Foiled), Creme Brûlée and Peach Smoothie.
I purchased my MUG from BeautyBay.com which has a fixed rate shipping and free shipping over $31.00AUD which is great for everyone stuck down here with crazy shipping rates. BeautyBay’s shipping can be slow but I have never had an issue with it arriving outside of the designated time. I will say that the shades are quite different from what I was expecting based on the colour swatches on the website, I would recommend always looking at image swatches before purchasing to make sure the shades are what you are looking for. That being said I do love all of the shades I picked up I just feel that I could have gotten a few other colours to make the palette perfect for what I was looking for.
I chose to have three different types of finish in the shadows I purchased, those being Matte, Shimmer and Foiled. I am impressed with all of the formulas, the best of which is the Foiled shadows.
The two Foiled shades I picked up are Flame Thrower and In the Spotlight, both of which are now my favourite eyeshadows. Flame Thrower is a rich, burnt copper, red shade that is the total stand out colour of the range for me. I find I can use this shade on its own for a one colour look and it creates a lot of depth on its own, I also love using this colour with a really dark outer corner for a dramatic night time look. In the Spotlight is a brilliant champagne shimmer that works very well on my fair skin tone and creates an intense highlight. I use In the Spotlight all over the lid for a bright-eyed look or in the corner to finish off any eye look.
I picked up four matte shades, Bitten, Mango Tango, Creme Brulee and Peach Smoothie. The matte formula is extremely buttery with very little fall out, the two things I always look for in a matte shadow. The pigmentation is amazing and well balanced to blend very easily. My most used in Peach Smoothie which is the perfect warm toned colour to blend out any look. I also love Creme Brulee which was a surprise as I tend to stay away from browns but I have loved this shade for a neutral matte eye.
Finally I picked up three of the satin finish shadows, Burlesque, Roulette and Cosmopolitan. I love this formula, it is very buttery and extremely pigmented with a decent amount of shimmer. I use Roulette more then the other two for a day to day look, it is awesome for a one colour shadow. I do use both Burlesque and Cosmopolitan but don’t find myself reaching for these shades as often as the others.
Overall I am totally obsessed with Makeup Geek and cannot wait to get my hands on some more shades from the range. Let me know which colours are your go-to’s.
