Time to share some of my Oily Skin secrets with you all. As someone who has struggled with a very oily complexion for years I have really found the best of the best for getting your base to stay in place all day!
Starting with primer. I don’t always wear a primer, and I do swap them around from time to time but if I know I need my makeup to last all day and night without even budging I always grab my Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. This is a primer that is designed to hold onto oil and stop it sliding with a nice silky texture. The primer has a slight White/Blue finish to help counteract any redness in the skin as well as a little bit of thickness to help fill in and pores as well as evening out any texture.
My go to Foundation is the Revlon Colourstay Foundation for Oily, Combination skin. This has been my holy grail for quite a while. Again, if I need my face to stay looking great all day I reach straight for this. I actually hardly ever reach for anything else anymore. Colourstay gives a good, full coverage that is not cakey at all while still being easily blendable and smoothing. My only recommendation is using a good skin care routine to keep your skin in tip top shape.
Next up I have my Holy Grail concealer which is the MAC ProLongwear Concealer. I love trying new concealers but no matter how many I try I have not found anything that rivals this one. I use one pump to conceal under my eyes, brighten my nose and forehead and add coverage to anything else that is poking through. You do need to blend this concealer out very quickly because it sets rather quickly.
A great tip is using a brightening powder under the eyes that is not going to cake. If you are using a powder that adds coverage all over the face you don’t want to apply it too close to the eyes or it will age the area. My current favourite is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in ‘Diffused Light’ which is a Yellow powder with a slight shimmer. This powder brightens up the whole area without being too intense.
Finally the main part of keeping you base in place all day is a good setting powder. My favourite is the Smashbox Photo Filter Powder. I have always used powder that give extra coverage because they tend not to separate on the skin which is a major issue with oily skin. The Smashbox powder is incredibly creamy without being oily which is a rare combination. There are quite a few great powders out there but this one comes out on top.
I hope this has been a helpful insight into how to control and oily base.
